Walmart uses Kansas City as test market for new meal kits

Kits to be sold at more than 2,000 stores

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Walmart has been testing meal kits in the Kansas City area. They tested so well that Walmart is expanding the kits to more than 2,000 stores in 2018. 

According to a news release from Walmart, the meals are made and assembled fresh in-store daily. They’re currently available in more than 250 stores. 

Options include: 

  • Pre-portioned cooking kits such as steak dijon, basil garlic chicken, and sweet chili chicken stir fry
  • Kits to accompany the grocers’ rotisserie chicken such as Thai curry chicken and chicken fried rice 
  • One-step meals that can be heated up and on the table in less than 15 minutes like chicken alfredo, cheesy ravioli bake, meatloaf and more. 

Walmart said the meal options serve two people and range in price from $8 to $15.
