UPDATE 11/23: The repairs are finished and all at Terminal C are open again.

KCI Airportis expected to see a 10.5 percent increase in travelers for the holiday season compared to a year ago.  With the Thanksgiving travel rush, a water main break couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Crews discovered the break outside Terminal C on Monday. KCI Spokesman Justin Meyer told 41 Action News that crews are working around the clock to fix the situation.

“It’s very likely for the next several days we won’t have all 6 lanes of the roadway," he said.

Kansas City is the largest airport in the country where drivers pick up and drop off passengers on the same platform.  When you combine arrivals and departures with taxis, limos, and shuttles using 3 lanes instead of 6, you can expect heavy traffic tie ups.

For travelers this couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“This week isn’t an ideal time.  Wednesday will be busy and certainly Sunday will be the busiest travel day of the year,” Meyer said.

This primarily impacts Terminal C at the airport, which includes United Airlines, Spirit, Air Canada, Allegiant, Frontier and American.
