KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Businesses and homeowners in part of the Brookside neighborhood woke up Thursday morning with little or no water pressure. The Kansas City water department said a 12-inch water main broke near 63rd and Oak overnight.
Just before 4 a.m., 41 Action News cameras recorded water gushing out from under the road on Oak Street. By 5 a.m., the water department had managed to reduce the flow.
Oak Street was closed just south of 63rd Street to address repairs.
Two businesses at the corner of 63rd and Oak said they were without water. The 7-Eleven convenience store remained open, but could not make coffee. Heirloom Bakery and Hearth will be closed Thursday due to the break. If you're planning to visit a business in the area, it might be worth calling to check in before you make the trip.
Homeowners living several blocks away from the intersection reported not having water Thursday morning as well. A city spokesperson did not know how many residential customers were impacted by the break, nor how long it would be until crews could restore water service.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
