KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One Kansas City, Missouri, church is giving back to local school district staff and faculty members.

Discover Church purchased 1,000 Papa Murphy’s pizzas and started a text campaign to reserve time slots for school employees to pick up a pizza or two at the store’s Barry Road location.

Pastor Jernigan Schwent said that they are "trying to be a church that says, 'We don’t want a thing from you.'"

"We want everything for you," Schwent said. "And if [we] can demonstrate that by giving you a little bit of pizza then, man, we’re all in. We’re just trying to take advantage of an opportunity to build a bridge of love out to the community.”

Volunteers will be at Papa Murphy’s on the following dates:

  • 2-4 p.m. on May 4
  • 4-6 p.m. on May 6
  • 5-7 p.m. on May 7

Education workers can text, "DCPIZZA," to 816-203-1835 for more information.
