Winstead's Steakburgers files for bankruptcy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local burger restaurant Winstead's Steakburgers has filed for bankruptcy in Kansas.

Documents cited nearly $600,000 in owed debts and less than $50,000 in assets as reason for the filing.

The debts include over $145,000 owed to the Missouri Department of Revenue for taxes.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Feb. 23 of this year.

Winstead's has been operating as a tradional burger and fountain shop since 1943 and is a popular spot for shakes and malts in the Kansas City area.

The Winstead's Company ownership group, Haddad Restaurant Group, Inc., also filed for bankruptcy.
