Winter Storm Watch issued for Kansas City area Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Kansas City metro area and beyond.

The watch begins at 9 p.m. Thursday and will last through 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 1.

In Kansas, the watch affects Atchison, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami and Wyandotte counties.

In Missouri, the watch affects Adair, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Chariton, Clay, Clinton, Cooper Daviess, De Kalb, Grundy, Henry, Howard, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Linn, Livingston, Macon, Pettis, Platte, Randolph, Ray, Saline and Sullivan counties.

According to 41 Action News meteorologist Wes Peery, the winter storm will bring freezing rain and likely snow, and ice and snow are expected to impact driving conditions as the New Year arrives.
