KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for counties across east-central Kansas and west-central Missouri for Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

As of Friday morning, the 41 Action News weather team forecasted the storm to arrive Saturday night near midnight.

NWS reported heavy snow is possible with accumulations of 4 to 7 inches.

Highest snowfall totals are expected along and south of Interstate 70.

Blowing snow will also be a concern on Sunday, reducing visibility and creating dangerous traveling conditions.

Counties under the watch in Kansas include Atchison, Miami, Linn, Leavenworth, Wyandotte and Johnson. On the Missouri side, Platte, Clay, Ray, Carroll, Chariton, Randolph, Jackson, Lafayette, Saline, Howard, Cass and Johnson County residents should be on alert.

After the snow, frigid temperatures move in to begin next week. NWS said temperatures Monday could fall below zero with wind chills of -15° to -20° in the morning.
