KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people, including a 7-year-old child, were injured when a car drove into a school building shortly before 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri.
The incident occurred at Summit Pointe Elementary School at 13100 E. 147th St. in KCMO. The school is part of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District.
A 44-year-old woman driving a Nissan SUV turned into the school’s circular drive, but instead of following the driveway continued straight and crashed into the building, according to police.
She and a 7-year-old passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
KCMO Dangerous Buildings examined the building and determined the school remained habitable, according to a KCPD release.
"No one else was injured or near the accident," according to a letter sent to Summit Pointe parents from the district.
