KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The group that owns Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer team FC Kansas City says their plans for the future may be up in the air.
FC Kansas City spokesman Jeff Husted said the team is in “ongoing discussions” with the National Women’s Soccer League regarding the team’s “status and plans for the future.”
The discussion comes amidst reporting from soccer insiders and a report in the Salt Lake City Tribune late Wednesday that the Real Salt Lake ownership group plans to launch a new women’s team in Salt Lake City. The move could correspond to FC Kansas City ceasing operations next season, the article said.
Husted said the team hopes to have more information soon.
The team's website is still advertising season tickets for the upcoming 2018 season.
