KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Streetcar service in downtown Kansas City was suspended late Thursday morning after one of the streetcars was involved in a wreck.
Authorities said one person suffered minor injuries after a streetcar crashed into a car near 20th Street and Main Street around 11 a.m.
The Kansas City Streetcar Authority said they and KCPD are still investigating the cause of the crash, but 41 Action News crews on the scene said it looked like a bucket truck doing work on a building was over the white line on the street, and the streetcar driver ran into the truck, shattering glass.
The Kansas City Streetcar Authority issued a statement that read, in part:
On Thursday, September 7, 2017, at approximately 11:00 a.m., an incident occurred when KC Streetcar #801 came into contact with a piece of construction equipment in use at the active construction site on the southeast corner of 20th and Main Street. Once that occurred, the streetcar stopped movement at the intersection of 20th and Main Street. Approximately twenty people were on board the streetcar at the time and one reported minor injury.
The statement goes on to say that car's service was suspended. Read the full statement here.
