OLATHE, Kan. — Children were the center of attention Friday at Cedar Creek Elementary School in Olathe, Kansas, where the YMCA hosted an Absolutely Incredible Kids Day celebration.

The YMCA of Kansas City hosts a Y-Club afterschool program at Cedar Creek, and staff members have thrown a celebration honoring kids for the past three years.

Parents and teachers write letters to the kids, highlighting everything that makes them special as a way to empower them and instill confidence.

After reading the letters, the children get to play and make a variety of crafts in an event dedicated to them.

Y-Club supervisor Bridget Cavlovich said Absolutely Incredible Kids Day comes from a national call to action from Camp Fire.

“When the kids walk in, it’s great to see the smiles on their faces and how surprised they are.," Cavlovich said. "We had some kids cry today from letters they read from parents and teachers. It’s been a really great day."
