A suburban Kansas City man will be sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for his role in a drug-trafficking conspiracy that resulted in the shooting deaths of three people.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson's office says 36-year-old Kevin Finley of Independence pleaded guilty on Thursday to participating in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and two counts of using a firearm during the conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Finley admitted that he and several co-defendants planned to steal up to 3 pounds of meth from a home in Independence in November 2012.

A man, his girlfriend and her son were killed in the home invasion. The woman's then 12-year-old son was shot but survived.

One other defendant also was sentenced to 27 years while two others who have pleaded guilty are awaiting sentencing.
