After collecting more than $20 million in donations in support of building a border wall along the United States' southern border, GoFundMe will give automatic refunds to those who donated in the project.

According to an update provided by the founder of the page, Brian Kolfage, the government will not be able to accept the contributions. Kolfage posted that he has created a non-profit organization in hopes of continuing fundraising and building a border wall independently.

"Our team strongly believes that we can complete our segments of the wall for less than half of the government’s estimated costs on a per mile basis," Kolfage said.

While there are a range of estimates to fully build a border wall along the southern border, many estimates exceed $20 billion.

The original goal of the campaign was $1 billion, which is $4.7 billion below what Trump is requesting from Congress.

But since the project wasn't fully funded and won't go directly to the government, unless those who donated submits a request to GoFundMe, the money will be automatically refunded.

At $20 million, it would have been GoFundMe's most profitable campaign.
