"Star Wars" signs advocate driver safety

With the premiere showing of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” this week, at least four states across the country are jumping on the “Star Wars” bandwagon –- and creatively encouraging motorists to drive safety.

State transportation departments in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Utah are displaying “Star Wars-themed” driver warning on their electronic message board.

The signs warn motorists:

“Aggressive driving is the path to the Dark Side”

“Awaken your inner force, focus on the road”

“The Force is strong with you -– put down the phone”

“Road rage? Let the Wookie win”

“Be a rebel, not a clone. Put down the phone”

On Your Side checked with the Idaho Transportation Department and the Office of Highway Safety. Although they admit the movie-themed electronic billboards are a novel way to get drivers to obey the basic rules of the road, they say there are no immediate plans to put up similar message boards here in Idaho.
