In the year 2016, there is more advertising than ever that reflects the changing face of the United States and reflects the nation's diversity.
Still, there are plenty of people who don't like it one bit. The latest example is the outrage aimed at clothing retailer Old Navy over this tweet:
Oh, happy day! Our #ThankYouEvent is finally here. Take 30% off your entire purchase: https://t.co/nGQ9Pji1pN pic.twitter.com/vq4mIczm6A
— Old Navy Official (@OldNavy) April 29, 2016
The image, featuring a racially blended family, prompted many Twitter to unleash their anger. As reported by NBC's TODAY Show, remarks about the ad included "absolutely disgusting" and supportive of "the genocide of the white race."
Old Navy's response:
"We are a brand with a proud history of championing diversity and inclusion. At Old Navy, everyone is welcome," it told TODAY.
The attacks on Old Navy have brought out supporters of the retailer--including those who may not have shopped at Old Navy before.
Remember this 2013 Cheerios ad? It also prompted a stream of condemnation.
