Elizabeth Warren says Donald Trump is a 'loser'

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren laid into Donald Trump on social media Monday, calling the Republican presidential hopeful a "loser" and a threat to American values. ("Loser" is, as you probably know, Trump's favorite label for his own political opponents.)

Warren, a Democrat and former special advisor to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, posted about Trump on both Facebook and Twitter; she encouraged voters to "wake up," stop dismissing the businessman's campaign as a joke and take action to ensure he does not win the Republican presidential nomination.

Warren cited the mogul's four trips to bankruptcy court and legally dicey ventures like Trump University (also a favorite topic of Republican rivals) as evidence against his touted business acumen and his repeated promises to "Make America great again."

"People talk about how 'this is the most important election' in our lifetime every four years, and it gets stale. But consider what hangs in the balance. Affordable college. Accountability for Wall Street. Healthcare for millions of Americans. The Supreme Court. Big corporations and billionaires paying their fair share of taxes. Expanded Social Security. Investments in infrastructure and medical research and jobs right here in America. The chance to turn our back on the ugliness of hatred, sexism, racism and xenophobia. The chance to be a better people."

"Many of history’s worst authoritarians started out as losers – and Trump is a serious threat," wrote Warren on Facebook. "The way I see it, it’s our job to make sure he ends this campaign every bit the loser that he started it."

When asked about Warren's comments Monday afternoon, Trump responded: "You mean the Indian?"

Trump was referring to Warren's claims of Native American ancestry, which caused some controversy during her 2012 Senate campaign. Genealogists have disputed whether or not her alleged Cherokee ancestry exists at all; even if it did, Warren is not eligible to be treated as a member of the tribe by any Cherokee Nation authority.
