Just one day after Donald Trump became the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, several members of his own party say they will not vote for the billionaire.
"I feel that for my own conscience, I cannot support Donald Trump for president,” said Kansas State Rep. Brett Hildabrand.
The Shawnee representative is not alone. In an email to 41 Action News, State Rep. Amanda Grosserode of Lenexa also said she would not vote for Trump.
Both Hildabrand and Grosserode supported Texas Sen. Ted Cruz before he dropped out Tuesday night.
"There will be some people that will say this is just sour grapes. I was a Cruz supporter. But truth be told, this is decision I've been developing for months now," Hildabrand said.
Despite his current opposition to Trump, Hildabrand says he will not completely close the door on supporting the billionaire in the future.
"Given his track record of flip-flopping on issues like guns and abortion, as well as the personal way in which he conducts himself, belittling people and acting as a bully, I would have to get a sense of a sincere change,” said Hildabrand.
The state lawmaker says he will not support the like the likely Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, either. He says he will vote for a third party candidate.
