Body camera video shows a Topeka police officer saving a child from a pond.

On April 20, Officer Aaron Bulmer was looking for subjects involved in an altercation when he saw a three-year-old child walking toward the pond at the Central Park Community Center.

Topeka police said Bulmer was exiting his vehicle to speak to the child when the child fell into the pond. Bulmer jumped into the pond after the child and pulled him to safety.

Medical services were called and the child was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Topeka police said a parent who had been out looking for the child was located and the two were reunited.

Police said the child has Autism and many times children with Autism are drawn to water.

Topeka police said in a news release, “Officer Bulmer was in the right place at the right time to save a young life.”
