Former nurse reported accused abuser in 1999

A former nurse for the man accused of sexually abusing veterans at the Leavenworth VA hospital said she reported misconduct as early as 1999.

The nurse, who has asked to remain anonymous, said she called the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in fall of 1999 to file a complaint against Mark Wisner. She said she never heard back from the Board.

Wisner willingly surrendered his physician assistant license in February of 2015. The Kansas Board of Healing Arts investigated and found at least seven victims who said Wisner made inappropriate sexual comments to them, gave inappropriate examinations, and solicited for sexual acts.

The woman worked with Wisner in Horton, Kansas, and said she often saw Wisner over prescribing medication to his patients. She said he practiced “out of his scope” and lacked oversight.

In a sit-down interview with 41 Action News, she recalled one uncomfortable situation where Wisner was giving a young boy a shot in his toe for an ingrown toenail procedure.

“Wisner made a comment about giving him the shot in his private area.”

She said she read an article, and she knew she had to come forward to let people know what she witnessed nearly 20 years ago.

Hear from the nurse tonight on 41 Action News at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
