The body of a 26-year-old man was found in Kansas City, Kansas Wednesday morning, but the cause of death is unknown at this point.

Kansas City, Kansas Police Officer Cameron Morgan said it's now being investigated as a homicide.

He said the man was visiting his girlfriend Tuesday night near 15th and Grandview. Around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, she found his body in her driveway.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots, but said it happens so often they did not call police.

"We are people of the community. We work in the community, and we have nothing to do with anything to relate to violence. But, it happens," explained Lori Schmidt, who said she heard three gunshots and a car speed off at 3:45 a.m.

Morgan reiterated that KCKPD did not get any emergency calls until someone found the man’s body.

Morgan said if this is ruled a homicide it will be the 42nd this year, compared to 2015's 33.

Police said medical examiners need to further look at the body; the 26-year-old could have been shot in his back.

Investigators said nearby cars and houses had some bullet holes.

Morgan said it did not look like the man was going anywhere; he was wearing house slippers when he was found.
