KCK roofing company owners indicted in undocumented workers kickback threat

Authorities raided a Kansas City, Kansas, business Tuesday as the owners are accused of threatening undocumented workers to pay kickbacks or be deported.

A federal grand jury indictment alleges the owners of Century Roofing knowingly employed undocumented workers, using coercion, extortion and threats to control workers and force them to pay kickbacks. Their goal was to make money by cutting Century Roofing’s costs and giving the company a competitive advantage, according to the indictment.

“Unlawful business practices alleged in the indictment paint a picture of undocumented workers being manipulated by employers who played on their vulnerabilities – particularly their fear of being caught and deported from the United States,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall in a news release.

If convicted, the owners face a massive fine and a long time in federal prison.

Someone watched the raid happen and captured it on video. You can watch it below (NOTE: The video contains strong language).
