UPDATE: Man charged in KCK shooting death

UPDATE, 1/7: On Thursday, Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman charged a Kansas City, Kan., man in connection with a fatal shooting. 

Franklin Bryant, Jr., 45, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jerome Simmons. 

Bryant, Jr., is in jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. 

ORIGINAL STORY: 

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department has identified the victim in a fatal shooting. 

According to officials, police were called around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a life-threatening shooting in the 1100 block of Kimball Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man in his 30s. Police said he died from apparent gunshot wounds. 

KCK police identified the victim as Jerome Simmons, 39, of Kansas City, Kan.

A few minutes later, KCK Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted officers had a person of interest in custody in connection to the shooting. Police say the person of interest turned themselves in to police headquarters. 

The incident remains under investigation. Kansas City, Kansas police are encouraging anyone with information on this case to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
