Jessica and Billy Nolan got a call from Billy's grandma, Patsy, in the middle of the night.

Jessica Nolan knew it couldn't be good news.

"At first I was like, why is grandma calling this early in the morning?" she told 41 Action News.

They rushed to Patsy Nolan's Kansas City, Kansas, home to find a tree in the living room. Overnight storm winds sent the massive trunk and branches crashing onto the roof, narrowly missing Patsy Nolan's bed.

No one was injured.

"She got up to go to the bathroom, and she couldn't get through the hallway because there was a tree in front of her. She didn't even know it had fell," Jessica Nolan said.

Part of the roof in the living room is caved in, and the bathroom is destroyed. The Nolans laid a tarp down to catch the water leaking in.

Neighbors said that the tree, which is in the front yard, has been a problem for a while.

"We sit here and we can see that there is a problem with the trees, and a lot of people just don't have the funds to take care of them," James Bialek said. "Our first concern was, are they okay?"

Jessica and Billy Nolan are counting their lucky stars, especially because their three-year-old daughter was in the house too.

"I'm just thankful they're okay," Jessica Nolan said with eyes full of tears.

All they can do is grab whatever they can from the house, while Patsy Nolan stays with them.

"I don't think she knows what she's going to do next," Jessica Nolan said. "We're just hoping that the insurance is going to fall through, and pretty quickly, so they can get back to living in their own home."

Patsy Nolan's brother, Billy, also lives in the house.

Insurance adjusters were at the house looking at the damage. The first project is removing the huge tree.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for the damages.
