The Johnson County Criminal Department released a redacted affidavit on Monday describing the moments leading up to the tragic Olathe shooting in February and what suspect Adam Purinton allegedly said to the victims.

The shooting took place around 7:15 p.m. at Austins Bar & Grill on February 22.
According to the affidavit, responding police officers found victims Alok Madasani and Srinivas Kuchibhotla injured and lying in the patio area of the restaurant.
Ian Grillot, who stepped in to help the two victims, was also shot and found on the north side of the restaurant when police arrived.

The affidavit says Purinton allegedly confronted Kuchibhotla and Madasani at the bar during the evening.
Madasani told police that Purinton made him feel uncomfortable during the confrontation and said he did not know what started the incident.
The victim also told officers that the suspect asked if their "status was legal."

After being escorted out of the restaurant by staff following the confrontation, police say Purinton returned around 30 minutes later.
Madasani described how he could hear customers at the time saying, "He's back and he has a gun!"
Purinton allegedly shot Madasani once, hitting him in the leg.
The affidavit says Kuchibhotla was shot three times before dying as a result of his injuries.
Purinton, who is described as a regular customer at Austins, was wearing jeans, a white T-shirt with military-style medals on it, and a white scarf around his head the night of the shooting.

Grillot, who said he was at Austins watching the KU basketball game that night, chased after Purinton thinking he was out of ammunition.
Purinton allegedly then shot Grillot, hitting him in the hand and upper chest.
Grillot and Madasani have since been released from the hospital.
Purinton continues to be held behind bars in Johnson County.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, March 9.
