One woman is dead and another person was injured in a fatal crash Wednesday morning.
Officials said Miesha Alleyne, 25, died in a head-on crash near 149th and Pflumm in Olathe, Kansas.
Police were called to the scene around 10 a.m. after reports of an injury accident in the 14900 block of Pflumm.
Initial reports indicated that a northbound car crossed the center line and struck a southbound passenger vehicle.
Alleyne died at the scene. The second driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Joe McMillian lives nearby and said he and several neighbors have been warning the city of Olathe about the dangers of the road for years.
"I expect we'll see others [fatalities] in the future unless somebody has the courage and sense of responsibility to step forward and say, 'We need to do something,'" he said.
McMillian believes the road needs to be widened, especially before The Willows is built - a new housing edition in the area that was approved by the city in January.
The city of Olathe says improving the one-mile stretch of Pflumm between 143rd and 151st is on their radar. However, other areas of the city need to be improved first.
"When you look at the needs across the city, it doesn't have the high traffic volumes, doesn't have the crash numbers, and it doesn't have the street conditions that other areas of the city do," said city spokeswoman Erin Vader.
The crash remains under investigation by the Olathe Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding this crash is urged to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-7500 or 913-971-6950.
