ORIGINAL: Police said a person of interest in a Thursday morning standoff near 97th and Nall in Overland Park is now in custody.

Officers were called to the area after two women reported a man held them against their will at an apartment.

Police said the women went to the man's apartment voluntarily Wednesday night. The women said the man wouldn't let them leave because he accused them of stealing things.

The two women told police after the man fell asleep they left and went to a nearby Shell gas station at 95th and Nall to call 911.

Police said the man reportedly chased after the women, then returned to the apartment when he saw they went into the gas station.

It was thought the man was barricaded inside the apartment, but after a standoff police said the residence was unoccupied and the suspect was not inside.

Officers arrested the person of interest after he returned to the scene of the incident. A person spotted him and called police. Overland Park police said he surrendered peacefully, and that they are familiar with the suspect.

The "soft" lockdowns at Indian Woods Middle School and Trailwood Elementary have been lifted. A "soft" lockdown means students and faculty can walk freely inside the buildings but are not allowed to go outside.
