OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Overland Park Police Department visited the Brickford Senior Living center over the weekend – and the pictures they posted on Facebook are hilarious.
This visit came more than a year after Sgt. Tirsa Otero made contact with an elderly woman and helped her secure a spot in the living facility. Since then, Otero has maintained a relationship with the woman.
The officers brought donuts with residents and let them ride in police vehicles. Some even got behind the wheel.

Otero has been recognized for her service in the department. In November 2016, she received the “Living the Values” award from Pierce.

One commenter on the Facebook post commended the department for “nice community policing.” Others said “Nice work!” and “Great idea! The seniors need community involvement.”
The Overland Park Police Department surprisingly got some negative backlash for the post.
The page responded in a comment on the original post, saying “Thanks for all the positive feedback. We (I) actually received one negative phone call advising, ‘you should be out writing tickets and busting criminals’. I tried to explain we actually enjoy getting involved with the community but he didn't want to hear it. Oh well.”
One commenter had a humorous response.
“You should have obliged him/her and written them a ticket!”
