Woman poses as health care worker, steals pain medication from retirement facility

Overland Park police are trying to identify a woman of interest in a theft that happened at Santa Fe Towers.

It happened on June 22 around 3:30 p.m.

The victim, 67-year-old Manjula Schuyler, said a woman posed as a health care worker and knocked on her door, saying she was with a health care facility.

"She said that the doctors were really concerned about me and doctors had sent her over to check on me to make sure everything will be taken care of for me," Schuyler said. “She had a nurses bag on her side, she was really clean cut, and softer voice, very trusting voice.” 

“She said do you have pain, and I said yes, I have a lot of pain and then she looked over here where I keep all my medicines, which are right in my eyesight all the time,” she said.

Later that afternoon, Schuyler noticed two bottles of her pain medication were missing. 

“I put everything exactly in the same place because I never want to make a mistake on what I'm taking,” Schuyler said. “And I started looking around and I know I never misplaced them, what did I do? Finally it hit me, she took them.”

Overland Park Officer John Lacy said the apartment complex mainly houses people who are elderly.

“You know that's one thing that bothers me, when you prey on the elderly and you prey on young children. It bothers police officers even more,” Lacy said.

Lacy believes this isn’t this woman’s first time doing this.

“I think she's going to strike again, so let's catch her before she does this again,” he said.

The suspect is identified as a white female with blonde hair, mid-thirties, and 5’7” tall.
