A family in Blue Springs is recovering after an early morning house fire caused $150,000 in damage and killed three dogs.

Central Jackson County Fire Department Chief Eddie Saffell said responders were called out around 5:30 a.m. to a single-family residence in the 300 block of NE 3rd Street on a reported fire.

When crews arrived, a fire that had initially started on the deck had spread into the house.

Six adults, a child and four dogs were in the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported to the occupants, through three of the dogs died in the blaze.

The Red Cross was called out to provide help to the family.

Saffell said the fire was accidental, but investigators haven't determined a cause.
