Grandview PD investigating man found dead in running vehicle

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Grandview police say officers are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a running vehicle.

Police have identified him as 25-year-old Derek McClain.

McClain's car was in a parking lot near 119th and Newton Avenue. He was in the driver's seat of the black 2015 Chevrolet Equinox.

One neighbor said his friend noticed the vehicle Wednesday night.

"He said the car was running when he got out of his car and went in and then this morning when he got up to go to work the car was still running," Ronald Miles, who lives in the apartment complex, said.

This is the same area where 27-year-old Lynette Williams's body was found burning by a dumpster. Her partner, Kasanova Callier, is charged in her death.

Miles said the death of Williams is one he and other neighbors won't soon forget.

"That was tragic as well," he said.
