Independence police investigate after pedestrian struck by train

Independence police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a train early Wednesday morning.

At 3:57 a.m., police were called to the railroad tracks under Missouri 291 Highway north of E. 39th Street.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased subject, whose identity has not yet been confirmed.

One of the southbound MO 291 Highway lanes was temporarily shut down during the morning commute while detectives and Medical Examiner’s Office personnel were on the scene.
