Police: Victim of train incident was a teen

UPDATE, 12:11 p.m. on 9/16: Independence police released the identity of a person killed by a train on Sept. 11.

John M. Crownover, 16, was killed, according to investigators. 

Crownover was a junior at Truman High School.



Authorities say a man is dead after being struck by a train in Independence.

Independence Fire and Police Departments were called around 8:00 p.m. Friday to the train tracks in the area of 23rd and Pleasant Street on reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a train.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Police are still investigating.
