Two people are in custody after police found a suspicious package, illegal drugs and body armor inside a stolen truck at an Independence gas station Saturday morning.
According to police, officers located a stolen vehicle around 3 a.m. following a traffic stop at a gas station near Highway 24 and Northern Boulevard.

Once crews found the suspicious package, Highway 24 and streets surrounding the gas station were temporarily closed while the bomb squad detonated the device.
The suspicious package was detonated by a robot around 7 a.m. Highway 24 and nearby streets reopened shortly after.
Officers also discovered the two suspects had body armor and illegal drugs.

It’s unclear at this time what the explosive device was. There were no injuries reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
