An 18-year-old man has been charged in the Feb. 1, 2016 crash that killed two passengers riding in his vehicle and injured another driver.
Collin Carter faces two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and one count of second-degree assault.
According to court records, Carter was driving northbound on Pryor Road at a high rate of speed, estimated at 80-90 mph, according to a witness. The posted speed limit in the area is 45 mph.
Court records say Carter attempted to pass a vehicle on a no-pass double yellow line area, lost control of the vehicle and then collided with another vehicle.
Two passengers in Carter’s vehicle, Nathan Giron, 18, and Courtney Rardin, 18, died as a result of the crash. Carter was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
According to the probable cause statement, a toxicology report showed Carter had a depressant drug in his system.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $75,000.
