UPDATE: Brian Gene Parks, 54, faces several charges related to an incident that left one woman dead and one man injured.

Parks is charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

A probable cause statement says a Harrison Police Department officer spotted two men physically struggling in the front yard of a home on North Independence Street. The two men split up and the officer caught up to one man, who he learned was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The officer claims the second man took off in a red Chevrolet truck.

After other officers arrived on scene, the statement says they found a woman shot in the head inside of the home where the men were first spotted.

Officers eventually tracked down the second man driving on Independence St. and identified him as Parks. The statement says a shotgun and a handgun were taken into evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any additional information tips can be directed to Lt. Osterberg at 816-380-8932.
