Softball gear stolen from trailer in hotel parking lot

A softball team is on its way home after a not so friendly welcome to Kansas City.

Late Tuesday night, the Alabama team’s gear was stolen.

Their trailer was parked in the parking lot at the Holiday Inn near the Country Club Plaza.

One of the players said they did multiple fundraisers so they could come to this tournament.

“It really hurts, because how could you do this to us,” Mackenzie Wilson said. “Some young girls, 14 years old, who came up here to do what they love.”

The team had to forfeit because they don’t have cleats, bats or gloves. They were all in the trailer that the thief cleared out.

Police are investigating, but the coach said they aren’t hopeful their things will be found.

“It’s unfortunate that a hotel of this caliber doesn’t have security cameras or security,” Roman Mcleod said. “Now that you think of it, I would just warn everybody that before you check into hotels or things like that just make sure you call and check, and make sure they have security cameras.”

The Alabama team had to qualify to play in this tournament and represent their area.

“We have a lot of parents that spent a lot of money and fundraised to raise money to get up here,” Mcleod said. “Thank you for all the people that supported us to make this trip happen for us. Unfortunately, we can’t bring home a championship because this happened.”
