One person is dead following a fatal car crash on Interstate 435 at Johnson Drive early Sunday morning.
Police were called around 5 a.m. after an SUV traveling southbound on I-435 hit a steel bridge pillar.
Authorities identified the victim as James Belfield, 54, of Lake Quivira. KDOT says Belfield was not wearing a seatbelt.
The left lane of eastbound Johnson Drive will be closed until the bridge supports can be inspected and repaired.
