Kansas Highway Patrol troopers arrest Mississippi murder suspect after chase

Posted

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers arrested a suspect wanted in a double homicide in Mississippi Wednesday morning.

At 7:50 a.m., KHP troopers attempted to stop a black Cadillac going eastbound on I-70 by Dorrance. The highway patrol said the vehicle matched the description of an Attempt to Locate broadcast after a shooting at a Pratt convenience store earlier Wednesday morning.

The vehicle and driver, Alex Deaton, were wanted out of Pratt County, according to a news release from the highway patrol.

Deaton did not stop and fled eastbound at a high rate of speed. The KHP said spike sticks were successfully used at 7:57 a.m.

The driver took the Wilson exit and drove toward the town. The news release said troopers “utilized tactical vehicle intervention” and ended the pursuit at 8 a.m.

After the car crashed and caught fire, Deaton was placed under arrest with no further incident.

No one was injured in the chase.

The highway patrol said charges are pending through multiple county courts. Deaton is a suspect in a double homicide in Mississippi, as well as other crimes in multiple states.
