It’s the first of July and that means there are some new laws in Kansas that you might not know about.
Starting today anyone with a concealed weapon permit can carry that weapon on any public college campus in Kansas.
Guns can be carried in briefcases, bookbags, and purses.
At KU there are mixed views.
"Any idiot without training, could be inebriated, could be medicated, who knows what, can carry a gun," said Aerospace Engineering Professor, Ron Barrett-Gonzalez.
"We respect those people who choose not to carry a firearm, we simply ask that they respect the rights of those who do want to carry a firearm," said Catherine Mortenson, NRA Spokesperson.
Also, the fine for adults not wearing their seatbelt in Kansas goes up today. The original fine was $10 now it's $30.
"It sounds appropriate. $10 might not be enough to get someone's attention so I think $30 is appropriate. I think it's important for safety that people wear a seatbelt," said Wade Holtcamp.
