University of Kansas police confirm six separate burglaries occurred inside Lewis Hall last week.

Freshmen Rachel Gibbs and Amy Bohn were surprised to hear about the crimes. They said the burglaries did not occur on their floor, but they are taking the crime seriously.

"It's a very friendly hall. All the people are very talkative and social, so I would have never guessed it would happen," Gibbs said.

Police said the thieves mainly stole cash and prescription drugs, totaling about $1,000.

The rooms broken into were all left unlocked and the victims were sleeping inside.

"It makes you wonder who has been wandering around our halls," said freshman resident Bohn.

Most students said they are taking the crimes seriously and taking preventative action.

"Definitely locking the room more and making sure the roommates do it, getting on them a little bit," said resident Danny Kearney-Spa.

"It makes us double-check our door because we used to leave it unlocked a lot because we just felt more comfortable like that. Now we have to be extra careful with it," Bohn said.
