What started with terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 will now end thirteen years later as our nation’s longest war enters its final chapter.

41 Action News sent Lindsay Shively and Garrett Haake to see how Missouri soldiers play a crucial role in helping to end Operation Enduring Freedom. They spent a week this fall with the 276th Engineering Company of the Missouri National Guard to tell the story of a war that defined a generation through the eyes of soldiers who are our friends and neighbors.

Meet the men and women who spent months in Kandahar tearing down what America built in its 13 years of war. From the soldiers who will try to transition to life back in Missouri to the Afghans who will try to transition to a dramatically smaller American presence, see what we’ve accomplished over more than a decade in Leaving Afghanistan: Our Longest War.
