KANSAS CITY, Mo. — CVS Health has dozens of job openings in their stores, including cashiers, shift supervisors and retail associates.

And for Austin Campbell and Caleb Vredenburg, the sounds of scanning products, stocking shelves and checking inventory are also the sounds that can be the start of building a career.

"I started out as a cashier and within six months, I worked my way up to a shift supervisor," said Campbell, who is now training to be a store manager. "I had a store manager that saw my potential."

Vredenburg, who is now a shift supervisor and pharmacy technician, started out as a cashier.

"My goal is to be a pharmacist, and I'll start pharmacy school in the fall," Vredenburg said.

Vredenburg said what he learned when he started still helps him today.

"Basic organization, that helped me back in the pharmacy, like organizing drugs depending on what they were for like cough and cold and stuff like that," he said. "That really helped kind of set me for pharmacy."

And in 2020, these jobs could be more than a first step to a new career.

"Honestly, a lot of these people that we're thinking about hiring for these retail roles, they may be backfilling somebody that's able to go out and help within the pharmacy, with the processing of vaccinations or even going on site to give the vaccination," Nate Burrell, a district leader for CVS Pharmacy, said.
