Greater KC Day celebrates the Royals while raising money for KC youth

Greater KC Day at Union Station celebrating Royals
Posted

Here’s an opening day number for you: 30.

It has been 30 years since the first Greater Kansas City Day!

Sure, it’s all about having fun and wishing the Royals a winning home opener, but it is also about making winners of every child with special needs in our town.

Through the sales of a special edition of the Kansas City Star and a wonderful “Raised Royal” flag, money rolls in to help support the Rotary Youth Camp; a place for kids to be kids!

This year, in addition to 1500 volunteers selling the paper on street corners all over the city, a big party was going on from 7-10 a.m. at Union Station.

KayCee, The “W” Guy, was there. KC Wolf was dancing around. A Dixieland band played. Legendary Chiefs and Royals were signing autographs.

Royals legend Frank White was one of the party-goers and said opening day is always special and full of hope.

Hope for a big season on the field and hope for children all over Kansas City.
