KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In upset fashion, Chiefs coach Andy Reid didn’t opt for a cheeseburger Monday night after returning home from Miami after winning Super Bowl LIV.

Kansas City fans probably won’t mind, since he opted for another beloved city staple.

“There’s not a barbecue place here that I don’t like,” Reid, who celebrated Monday night with a meal at Q39, said. “I haven’t met one burnt end ... that I didn’t like.”

Burnt ends were on the celebratory menu, but serving up humble pie to his critics — who lamented that he’d never won a championship, about his clock management or about his team discipline — wasn’t.

“I really don’t worry about those things,” Reid said. “I didn’t before Sunday, and I probably won’t after Sunday. We all try to do our best. I’m no different.”

Many believe Reid’s Super Bowl LIV victory, a 31-20 win Sunday against San Francisco, secures his legacy and a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

But Reid doesn’t concern himself with that either.

“I’m so happy for the city of Kansas City,” Reid said.

He thanked fans for the support, home and away, and mentioned the support Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes received Monday at Disney World as well before thanking Chiefs President and CEO Clark Hunt and the unsung heroes of the organization.

“All in all, a good day,” Reid, who hasn’t rewatched the game yet, said. “I love standing here with this result. It’s a beautiful thing for a lot of people.”

Already, he’s back to business, too.

Reid started preparation for the team’s offseason calendar Tuesday morning, hoping to give players and assistant coaches an idea of the months ahead before a Super Bowl title defense begins.

The Chiefs players completed exit physicals and exit interviews with team staff Tuesday, checking off the last of the boxes — other than the Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade — before the offseason officially can begin.

With the offseason, comes the chase for another Lombardi Trophy.

“There’s an urgency that you feel to get back,” Reid said. “You’ve got to step back and relax for a minute, but then you’ve got to go. You’ll be everybody’s best game when you win that.”
