The Chiefs took Wednesday off, but Thursday it was back to work at training camp. One of the most welcome sights was the return of linebacker Derrick Johnson to the practice field. Johnson suffered his second Achilles tendon injury of his career last season, but he's bouncing back strong.

"Mentally I'm better. Physically I'm not," said Johnson.  "It's not that I'm limping out there but I was 11 months removed then. I'm like seven and a half, eight months removed now. It's a little different.  I'm good, I can make all the plays, but I'm there. I'm a perfectionist."

The Chiefs are also taking this week to strengthen the defensive line by signing Roy Miller.  Miller, a former Jacksonville Jaguar and Texas Longhorn, went through the same Achilles injury as Johnson. These two Texas natives will be leaning on each other for moral support.
?
"D.J. was definitely somebody I looked up to and was one of my favorite players coming from the University of Texas," said Miller. "He was one of those guys that's always been a leader and a role model to me. I definitely reached out to him, and I look forward to talking to him today about the terminology.  It's very important to get on the same page with him. He knows everything. I look forward to working with him."

The Chiefs will be back on the practice field early Friday morning.  Their first preseason game is scheduled for Friday, August 11, when they host the San Francisco 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium.
