KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With heavy rain zeroing in on the metro, the Kansas City Royals decided to postpone the series opener Friday against the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium.

The game was originally scheduled for 7:15 p.m., but impending storms forced the game to be scrubbed for tonight.

The series now will begin with the regularly scheduled 1:15 p.m. game on Saturday.

The makeup game will be played at 7:15 p.m. as part of a day/night doubleheader. The popular Buck Night promotion will be honored for the Saturday evening game and there will be postgame fireworks, weather permitting.

The Yankees (32-17), who the lead the AL East, are expected to send Chad Green (0-2, 12.41 ERA) to the mound against Jakob Junis, who is 3-5 with a 5.69 ERA for the Royals.

Kansas City (17-32) currently sits last in the AL Central, but the club is 10-15 at home.

Despite a long and distinguished injury list, New York is 15-7 on the road this season and are 8-2 overall in the last 10 games.
