It's not often that we have honored two athletes in the same week. As a matter of fact, it's only the second time in the history of the Hy-Vee 41 Five-Star Athlete of the Week series that it's happened.

However, the honor was fitting for Liberty North girls' soccer players Hallie Hicks and Sidney Ewing.

Ewing is a sophomore forward who is beginning to come into her own as a leader on the Eagles team. She scored five goals in five games played last week, including a three goal performance against North Kansas City. She has 13 total goals on the season and is quickly becoming a force on the offensive side of the ball. However, she says she can't take all of the credit.

"It wouldn't be possible without our team and that we're very connected," Ewing said. " And, we get each other the ball easily and we just work really well together and I wouldn't be able to do it without them working hard for me."

Freshman goalkeeper Hallie Hicks kept opponents from scoring in four out of the team's five games last week.

"We have a pretty strong defense. So usually, it's communication," Hicks said. "Communication is a big part of that. But, when [the ball] does break through, it's nice to be able to track it down. And, with the help of the coaching staff, I feel like I've improved a lot."

Liberty North Girls Soccer Head Coach Steve Person is certainly happy that his team is undefeated this season. But, he's equally impressed with the performance of Hicks and Ewing.

"These two are just exemplary examples of the growth and maturity of the program and the hard work that they've put in," Person said. "They're just working really really hard right now."

NOTE: The Hy-Vee 41 Five-Star Athlete of the Week segment airs Thursday night during the 10 p.m. sportscast.
