KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sporting Kansas City will need to hit the ground running once they hit the pitch in Orlando. A Group D draw for SKC means the club will face three unbeaten teams in Orlando, and two of the three Western Conference leaders in Colorado and Minnesota.

“It’s the group of death,” said Connor Cape, Colorado Rapids host and announcer on Altitude 92.5 in Denver. “It’s going to be the toughest group, and I think whoever comes out of it with confidence that, ‘Alright, we can beat anybody, nobody can stop us,” he finished.

Colorado finished 2019 on a hot streak, winning five of its last seven matches before opening 2020 at an unblemished 2-0-0. The Rapids are truly kings off the restart, operating efficiently in set pieces. The club knocked in a league-leading 19 in 2019 and half of the team’s four goals in 2020 are off the set piece.

Cape sees a rivalry brewing between the powerhouses of Group D.

“In the Major League Soccer map, Salt Lake, Denver, Minneapolis and Kansas City are all kind of close and clustered together and there’s rivalries in this group,” Cape said.

He also said it's "absurd" how much talent is in the group.

“It’s absurd how these teams are built… and I think the winner of the tournament is coming out of this group,” Cape said.

The #MLSisBack tournament kicks off July 8 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
