MANHATTAN, Kan. — It was never truly close.
Kansas’ best chance to scratch back in the 118th edition of the Sunflower Showdown came trailing 13 points, with a man back to receive a Wildcat punt midway through the second quarter.
KU’s Kwamie Lassiter muffed the punt, allowing ample field position for K-State to rattle off 35 unanswered, cruising to the 55-14 victory Saturday in Manhattan.
Kansas was dismantled in all three phases of the game, including special teams. Wildcat punt returner Phillip Brooks flashed his skills, returning two separate Jayhawk punts for touchdowns.

K-State freshman Duece Vaughn was spectacular, racking up 152 yards and a score over 15 touches. Kansas football has not won a Sunflower Showdown rivalry game since November 1, 2008.
No. 20 Kansas State (4-1) heads to Morgantown next Saturday for a match-up with West Virginia. Kansas (0-5) hosts Iowa State.
