Posted

Can you feel it? Olympic fever? In a quick 100 days, the Winter Olympics will kick off in Pyeongchang County, South Korea.

You can follow it all right here on your 41 Action News Station.

Wednesday morning, with help from Dean Nelson of the Kansas City Ice Center and figure skating coach Wendy David, we got a jump start on the fun and excitement.

Nelson said the increase in interest in all types of skating, including hockey, is dramatic during this Olympic season.

More and more families come out to skate together after watching the action on the ice.

Wendy David is taking her message about the positive power of skating into schools in the time leading up to the opening ceremonies – telling future Olympians about the devotion it takes to reach the games and the rewards of all the hard work, on and off the ice.

One Olympic story being told has a significant chapter written in KC.

Ashley Wagner, born into a traveling military family, spent some of her formative skating years here in Kansas City.

She returned to skate at nationals at the Sprint Center this past January…on her way to a possible position with the Olympic team. Ashley was inspired by watching the Olympics.

Who knows who Ashley may be inspiring just 100 days from now!
